Review: Jack in the Box - Classic Popcorn Chicken

Jack in the Box's Classic Popcorn Chicken features chunks of white-meat chicken that are battered, breaded, and deep-fried

I bought an order for $3.99.

For the money, you get about 4.5-oz (a bit more than a quarter of a pound) of popcorn chicken. There was a fair amount of variance regarding the size of the pieces. A few pieces were big enough to qualify as a two-bite nugget, while some were no more than poppable fried bits of batter. Most feel somewhere in between though.

The shell was crispy and not too oily with a craggy and thick texture to it. The chicken inside was decently moist but not close to juicy.

Flavor-wise, the Classic Popcorn Chicken doesn't offer much on its own. Beyond salt, any seasoning was subtle. You definitely want to dip it.

When it comes down to it Jack in the Box's Classic Popcorn Chicken was just okay for me. I'd like a bit more seasoning and more chicken but if your ideal popcorn chicken is mostly fried batter, they're worth a try.
