Review: Sonic - Footlong Quarter Pound Coney

Sonic Footlong Quarter Pound Coney

The first thing I thought when the carhop at Sonic brought me my Footlong Quarter Pound Coney was "holy crap! That's a long hot dog!" I didn't know they made hot dog buns that big.

Fortunately, it's served in a tray and you can lift it up and bend it to eat it without trying to balance it in your hands. It's currently at a promotional price of $2.99 which is pretty good considering you can go halves on it and still be satiated.

Sonic's Footlong Quarter Pound Coney is a full footlong hot dog with an almost footlong bun topped with an all-meat chili and melted cheese. You can get it in true Coney fashion with optional mustard and onions.

The diced onions and mustard really set off the chili, while the chili itself was pretty meaty with a slight sweetness to it. The hot dog had a slight smokiness to it.

The bun was nice and squishy soft, but still held up well to the chili. This made for a not-too-messy eating experience.

Overall, Sonic's Footlong Quarter Pound Coney makes for a very good fast food chili dog, although it's a bit too large for me. I think my stomach would be better served to eat half now and half later.
