Review: McDonald's - Sausage Biscuit

Straight off McDonald's new Breakfast Value Menu (new in prices, the items are taken from the regular menu) is the Sausage Biscuit.  Simplicity in itself, it's a grilled sausage patty in a warm biscuit for $1.

My first impression on taking it out of its waxed paper wrapper is that it's a bit on the oily side.  My fingers had a sheen from holding it.  Maybe they brushed it with a lot of margarine before cooking or reheating (whichever one they do).  On the plus side, you don't have to worry about it being dry...  Be sure to get some extra napkins, you're going to need them to wipe the oil off your fingers.

The biscuit tasted good other than the greasy feel on your fingers but I guess that's what the wrapper is for.  The sausage is a just bit on the salty side and could use another note of flavor, maybe some more pepper or some garlic.  Still, it's a cheap, simple breakfast for when you're not asking for much.

I'd probably get it again for the one or two times a year that I just want a greasy sausage biscuit.  Anymore than that and I think I'd get sick.

  2. Always a nice thing to order. I like mine with some ketchup, eggs, and cheese more though :). Thanks to you, now I know more of what McD's has to offer. Haven't been back there in at least 5 months now!

  4. the wax paper will always be oily because of the butter they put on top of the biscuit.

  5. I will agree that the sausage patty itself does need another note of flavor, i have the feeling if the salt were reduced the sausage would taste pretty bland.  If they were to fix that one thing they would be a lot better, but they're good none the less for only $1.

  7. When I get the Deluxe Breakfast, I just throw everything but the Hotcakes into the English Muffin for a big breakfast sandwich.

  8. I love Sausage Biscuits! Great deal for $1. I used to work at McDonald's and we use to bake many bisucuits at a time and then when they came out we would brush them with margarine which is why you might need some napkins when you unwrap them.

I love the taste of the sausage, good flavor, doesn't matter how salty it is for me. Once in a great while if I feel like ordering a Deluxe Breakfast I like to assemble the sausage patty and biscuit into a Sausage Biscuit.

  10. They don't use a particular brand per se, they have several regional suppliers that make sausages to their specification.

  11. I used to like these when they made fresh biscuits. They know use frozen reheated biscuits not the same.

  12. I used to like their sausage biscuits but they're often a roll of the dice. One day thy may be excellent and the next day the sausage has a soapy taste which I'm guessing means it's spoiled or freezer burned. I guess it could also be left over from the previous day.
