White Castles Tests Plant-Based "Impossible Slider"

White Castle has partnered with Impossible Foods to test the new Impossible Slider, featuring a plant-based patty that's meant to be meat-like in taste and texture.

The patty is joined by smoked cheddar cheese, pickles, and onions on a slider bun. The price tag on the Impossible Slider is $1.99 (compared to about a dollar for an American Cheese Slider or a Veggie Slider, which does not include cheese).

The new slider can be found at 140 locations in the New York, New Jersey, and Chicagoland areas.

The patty is mostly made of water, textured wheat protein, coconut oil, and potato protein. According to Impossible Foods, it also contains leghemoglobin, a soy-based ingredient that is similar to hemoglobin (the stuff that makes blood red) and gives the patty a taste and smell like meat.

If the test is successful, one would think that the Impossible Slider would replace the chain's Veggie Slider, which features a Dr. Praeger's veggie patty.
