The brand describes the shell as "fluffy and cinnamon-y." The French Toast Chalupa comes filled with scrambled eggs, a choice of bacon or sausage crumbles and a side of syrup (which is about the same setup as the since-discontinued Waffle Taco) and is selling for $2.49 each.
A Taco Bell chalupa shell is basically a soft flatbread (AKA their gordita shell) shell that's been deep fried.
The test item marks the latest in a long line of attempts by Taco Bell at making other foods into a taco shell. Beside the aforementioned Waffle taco shell, they've also tried a fried chicken shell, a croissant shell, a quesadilla shell, and a biscuit shell (and, if you managed to get into their test kitchen, a ramen shell).
