Yoplait Offers New High-Protein Yogurt Alternative to Greek Yogurt

Yoplait offers a new high-protein yogurt that they're calling "YQ by Yoplait" that's made with ultra-filtered milk that provides a lower sugar alternative to Greek yogurt.

Ultra-filtered milk starts with regular milk but is filtered to concentrate the amount of protein while removing much of the lactose (also known as "milk sugar"). With the removal of lactose, the sugar content of the new yogurt brand is less than regular as well as Greek yogurt. Like Greek yogurt, it has a thick and creamy texture but does not exhibit a "tart tang or chalky aftertaste."

The plain version of YQ by Yoplait contains just 1 gram of sugar per 5.3-oz serving and is also good for 17 grams of protein. Flavored varieties include 9 grams of sugar compared to about 12 to 14 grams for Chobani blended Greek yogurt (the leading brand). Flavored varieties of YQ also include 15 grams of protein per 5.3-oz serving.

YQ by Yoplait is available in Plain, Peach, Mango, Coconut, Lime, Strawberry, Blueberry and Vanilla flavors. The line is 99 percent lactose-free and contains no artificial preservative, flavors, or colors.

Flavored varieties also deliver 15 grams of protein per 5.3 oz. serving and are available in Coconut, Peach, Mango, Lime, Strawberry, Blueberry and Vanilla. Plain and Vanilla are also available in 26 oz. tubs. 5.3-oz cups carry a suggested price of $1.49 while 26-oz tubs (which only come in Plain and Vanilla flavors) are $4.99.
