Review: KFC - Hot Honey Extra Crispy Chicken Tenders

KFC's Hot Honey Extra Crispy Chicken Tenders takes the chain's Extra Crispy Chicken Tenders and covers them in new Hot Honey sauce and throws in a couple of pickles as well.

Three tenders, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a biscuit cost me $6.49.

Oddly enough, these didn't taste all that much like honey (in fact, I found more of a honey taste in their barbecue and honey mustard dipping sauces). Instead, there was a medium amount of heat and a lightly sweet, weirdly fermented tanginess to the oil-based sauce that I did not care for. I am a bit curious as to how they achieved the flavor, however.

The strips/tenders themselves turned out pretty well on this visit. They had a somewhat flaky, crispy crust and were moist and juicy inside.

When it comes down to it, KFC's Hot Honey Extra Crispy Chicken Tenders are my least favorite of their recent new sauces and are the only ones that I did not enjoy at all. I feel like some honey, oil, and chili flakes would have turned out better.
