Review: Devour - Sweet & Tangy Pulled Pork

Devour's Sweet & Tangy Pulled Pork features pulled pork in a tangy mustard sauce with a side of bourbon-glazed sweet potatoes.

A 10-oz box was $3.49.

They kept it fairly simple with this frozen meal and it turned out rather well. Both the pork and sweet potatoes came in good-sized chunks and were tender but not to the point of being mushy. I could still feel the grain of the pork and the sweet potatoes had some nice scorch marks.

The pork was lightly seasoned but wasn't smoky, which makes me think that it was probably braised rather than smoked. The smokiness of the dish stems from the mustard sauce, which is really a mustard barbecue sauce that's good for a combination of sweet, smoke, salt, tanginess, and mustard.

The glaze for the sweet potatoes enhanced the inherent sweetness of the potatoes while adding some richness from notes of caramel, butter, and bourbon.

When it comes down to it, I really enjoyed Devour's combination of pulled pork and sweet potatoes as the taste and texture of each and their respective sauces worked well together. However, I wish that they came in separate compartments as the mixture of the two sauces together really throws off the balance of each.
