McDonald's to Discontinue Signature Crafted Recipes by Summer 2019

McDonald's plans to discontinue their entire Signature Crafted Recipes menu by this summer.

It looks like the Quarter Pounder will be their platform of choice for any new sandwiches. According to a statement by the company:

"Our customers have said they love our fresh beef. With our new Quarter Pounder Deluxe and Quarter Pounder Bacon, we’ve introduced even more ways to enjoy the classic burger toppings they know and love, now on the fresh beef Quarter Pound patty. Based on their feedback, we’ll move away from the Signature Crafted Recipes line on our national menu. Our fresh new Quarter Pounder lineup brings customers more of the craveable, customizable and delicious tastes they love."

According to Business Insider, McDonald's Signature Crafted Recipes will be gone by June 5, 2019 and at least part of the reason behind the change is that the chain is looking to "reduce the number of products in restaurants." Getting rid of the Signature Crafted Recipes means that they not longer have to stock ingredients for the Mushroom & Swiss (seasoned mushroom, creamy bistro aioli, Swiss cheese, and crispy onion strings) and Bacon Smokehouse (bacon-onion sauce, white cheddar, sweet mustard sauce, and fried-onion strings) options.

It's interesting that the Signature Crafted Recipes menu, which was the pared-down result of McDonald's build-your-own-burger concept and was only launched two years ago, is now getting supplanted by slight variations of the Quarter Pounder.

If the trend holds, look for future limited-time burgers from the chain to mostly include currently stocked ingredients with maybe one-to-two new ingredients.
