Review: Krispy Kreme - Leprechaun Trap Donut

Krispy Kreme's Leprechaun Trap Donut features a yeast donut filled with Irish Kreme and topped with a layer of yellow icing, gold sprinkle blend, and a leprechaun sugar piece so that it looks like a leprechaun that's stuck in a pot of gold.

Only limited quantities are made each day through today (St. Patrick's Day) and they normally cost $1.69 but I received this courtesy of Krispy Kreme.

The Irish Kreme filling tasted like sweet and creamy Irish creme minus the alcohol. It's probably not my favorite flavor but was pretty dead-on.

The rest of the donut tastes a lot like the chain's Cake Batter donut due to the gold sprinkles having the same texture and taste as the confetti sprinkles. The yellow icing and sprinkle don't have any particular flavoring beyond sweet. The leprechaun sugar piece was basically a shaped sugar cube. As you might've guessed, it was fairly sweet.

When it comes down to it, Krispy Kreme's Leprechaun Trap Donut is a pretty good themed donut for St. Patrick's Day that delivers a robust Irish cream flavor (if that's what you're looking for).
