Review: Carl's Jr. - Hand-Breaded Chicken Tenders

Carl's Jr's new Hand-Breaded Chicken Tenders are touted being made in house rather than the standard of frozen pre-cooked chicken strips most other chains carry. They're dipped in buttermilk and hand-breaded. Suggested retail price is $2.99 for three, but I paid $3.29 at my local Carl's.

My tenders were very juicy. The breading was a mix of soft and crunchy bits; crunchier with more breading than Chick-fil-A's version but not as crunchy as KFC's Extra Crispy Strips. They were seasoned enough for added flavor and just a wee bit on the salty side (for me, but probably just right for most people).
Strangely enough when I asked for honey mustard sauce, they didn't give me a sealed packet but rather a small plastic cup with a lid filled with sauce. I wonder if it means they make the sauce in house(?!) or if they just have a really big bottle/canister of honey mustard somewhere.

My main nitpick would have to be the size of the tenders which aren't small per se; it's roughly comparable to what the other chains are offering. It's about half the size of the mutant chicken tenders shown in the commercial though. I know there's always some embellishment in advertising, but half is a lot!
Overall, this Carl's Jr.'s Hand-Breaded Chicken Tender is a quality product sold at a competitive price. It's well worth a try.

  1. I ordered it with the bbq sauce, which not only came in a plastic container, but WAS THE SAME as their regular barbecue sauce! So bizarre. I liked them, I did not love them. They're better than most any fast food strips, though.

  2. Maybe they figure a plastic mini cup is somehow fancier or something... I agree it is quite bizarre...

I guess maybe the cup is a bit wider for easier dipping?

  3. I will be seeking a refund, like you said, advertisement embellishes a little, but these tenders were HUGELY different in size.

The first thing my wife and I did was say "WHAT!?" and stare at eachother with "hello floor, this is my chin, chin, this is the floor" look.

I have never in my life seen food advertisers oversize their food THIS much, I just watched the commercial again and the chichen tenders in the commercial are at least FOUR TIMES BIGGER.

  4. Yeah, the commercial tenders look like they must have come from a turkey-sized chicken or something.
