Review: Wendy's - Chili

Wendy's Chili is a uniquely Wendy's menu item among the major fast food chains. It's a hearty soup of beans, spices, ground beef, and veggies for a reasonable price.

A fair-sized small cup cost me $1.29 with an additional $0.25 charge for shredded cheddar cheese.

The main flavor of Wendy's Chili is definitely tomato and not much else really. While there's also beans, beef, and chopped onions, celery, and green bell peppers, they don't impart as much flavor as you would expect and mostly provide texture.
The beef in particular was mealy and almost grainy which was somewhat off-putting. While I had them add cheese to liven up the proceedings, the cheddar used was fairly mild and did not provide as much flavor as I hoped.

Still for $1.29, Wendy's Chili is warm, hearty, and very comforting when the weather turns cold. It could do with more seasoning and heat though. And a sharper cheddar and some fresh, diced onions would be nice as well.

  1. Year's and years ago Wendy's had a chili and cheese baked potato on their menu. Now I just order a chili with cheese and a plain potato and make my own. Very num num.

  2. Have you had this before? That one looks soupier than the versions I've had.

  5. I guess the cheddar cheese must be a USA thing, in Canada I've never heard you can add that to the chili. But I love getting it as a side instead of fries for the combo, especially since they changed to the new fries which I hated.

  6. My favorite fast food meal is a Wendy's baked potato and chili. It's not a terrible nutritional hit and is filled with fiber and protein. I don't bother with the cheese because its wasted calories and no flavor. I when they had topped baked potatoes. They once had brocolli and cheese and chicken a la king (which was really good).

  7. I remember the broccoli and cheese but have never seen chicken a la king. Sound pretty interesting though!

  8. If u add the hot sauce that comes with the chili, it helps a lot. Adds a bit of tangy zest.

  9. I find it matters what time of day it is to how soupy it is. I guess depending on how quick they run through it makes a difference.

I've gone near the end of the lunch rush and it's been very thin and the veggies were crispy. Poor quality.

Your store / milage may vary.

  11. It doesn't come with it. Ask for "chili seasoning" as they should give you some small foil packets (like ketchup packets). Pour them in and stir. It's a thin clear-ish liquid, but it kicks up the flavor and heat some.

  12. I will have to keep that in mind. Thanks for the tip.

  13. I have heard innumerable ravings from the human horde/herd regarding how absolutely wonderful Wendy's chili is... so superior to ANY other chili... the bestest yumiest superior-to-all-others chili.

I have heard the herd bleat the same or similar comments for such a lengthy period and heard it from so MANY mewing mouths that I eventually tried the concoction.

    Ho-hum.

Tried it again at a different Wendys. Ho-hum.

And a couple more times spread out over time and physical locations.

    Ho-hum, ho-hum and ho-hum.

As with other foodstuffs and sources for foodstuffs I believe that there is a certain "critical level" whereupon the easily-led easy-to-indoctrinate herd creates a mutually self-supporting ideology that permeates whatever level, if any, critical thinking ability(ies) those indoctrinated human critters possess and their mewings of "best none better can't be beat all else is 2nd-rate etc." is believed and nothing can alter that irrational SUBJECTIVE opinion.

Kinda' akin to the folks who were indoctrinated at Daddy's knee that 'Chevy is best" or "Ford is best" or whatever.

Silly inane creatures those humans be.

One reason corporations and the USA government and the elite ruling class spends many BILLIONS of bucks yearly on advertising and propaganda.
