Stouffer's Meatball Italiano Toasted Sub features your classic meatball sub but frozen and ready to be microwaved. Specifically, it features Italian seasoned meatballs with grilled red and green peppers, onions, mozzarella and marinara sauce on Italian bread.
You can pick up a box for around $3.99 or about $2.00 to $2.50 on sale.
You microwave this one in halves bread side down on a crisping sheet that you fold out onto the box.
I have to say, it was a bit sparse on the filling. I wanted more meatballs especially but more cheese, peppers, and onions as well.
The meatballs were flavorful enough with a tender bit of herbiness. But... they were also on the small side and didn't bring the meat necessary for a prime meatball sub. I guess you would say it was more a meat whimper than a roar. Sadness.
I couldn't really pick out the vegetables in my bites and there wasn't enough cheese for oozing goodness.
The bread was soft and chewy but instead of "toasted", the crust had a slightly fried, oiliness to it.
I wouldn't get this one again. Frozen sandwiches don't seem to turn out so well but it was the lack of meatiness that really disappointed here.

Microwaved sandwich bread never seems to really work out.
ReplyDeleteIt looks better than I expected too. Maybe add some cheese after it's done?
ReplyDeletedespite your negative review...it looks kind of good
ReplyDeleteThe cheese situation there is pretty terrible.
