Review: Starbucks - Caramel Waffle Cone Frappuccino

Starbucks' Caramel Waffle Cone Frappuccino features waffle cone-flavored syrup and dark caramel sauce blended with coffee, milk, and ice and then topped with more dark caramel sauce, whipped cream, and waffle cone pieces.

I paid $2.73 for a Grande (16 ounces) during their half-price Frappucino Happy Hour promo.

If you've had any of Starbucks' caramel-flavored drinks you'll know they're very sweet, and the Caramel Waffle Cone Frappuccino might be even a little sweeter (they put an even layer of dark caramel sauce on top before the whipped cream). I actually tried to stir in the whipped cream to make the drink less sweet.

In taste, it offered a cloying caramel flavor spiked with a strong note of brown sugar (to represent the waffle cone). The dark caramel syrup didn't seem much different from the regular caramel syrup. If you like the taste of coffee, it was covered up entirely here. The waffle cone pieces were nice and crunchy (and my favorite part of the drink), but most of the pieces were too big to suck up a straw (unless you spring the extra 95 cents for a cookie straw). If you actually want to get a taste of the cone pieces, your best bet would be to do what I did: pop the lid and just gobble them off the top.

Overall, if you're a fan of Starbucks' regular Caramel Frappuccino, you can consider the Caramel Waffle Cone Frappuccino as a plus version that adds a note of brown sugar (and cone pieces that require a bigger straw). It's much too sweet for my liking though.
