Chipotle Reveals New, Limited-Time Carne Asada

Chipotle adds a second steak option to the menu for a limited time with the arrival of new Carne Asada nationwide on September 19, 2019.

Chipotle's Carne Asada is sliced into strips (rather than cubed like their regular steak), seasoned with lime and then tossed with chopped cilantro and a "signature" spice blend.

It was previously tested in the Cincinnati, OH and Fresno, CA areas.

It's priced at the upper end for Chipotle proteins. An entree with Carne Asada costs $8.95 in my area (compared to $8.45 for steak), which is more than any other protein option. It's also higher in calories (260 calories versus 150 calories for steak).

While they don't mention what cuts of beef are used for the new Carne Asada, Chipotle's regular steak can come from a number of cuts, including bottom rounds, top rounds, eye of rounds, inside round, outside round, sirloin, knuckle, ball tip, and sirloin top. Chipotle cooks their steak sous vide and then finishes it on the grill.
