Review: Wendy's - Sausage, Egg & Cheese Burrito

Wendy's Sausage, Egg & Cheese Burrito features crumbled pork sausage, American cheese, and scrambled eggs wrapped up in flour tortilla.

I bought one for $1.49.

The classic sausage, American cheese, and egg breakfast combination comes up rather plain in Wendy's value-price breakfast burrito.

The pork sausage exhibited the same peppery, seasoned quality as their delectable sausage patty but it didn't come across as well since there was a good deal less of it, proportionally, to the other ingredients. The one-two punch of the eggs and flour tortilla overwhelmed it with plainness. The cheese was nicely melted and helped a little.

The scrambled eggs are pre-cooked and heated in-restaurant so that you kind of end up with egg crumbles. As is typical with eggs, the flavor's going to be whatever you add to it, which in this case is the American cheese, and a packet of La Victoria Salsa Picante that's included on the side. The salsa was watery but good for some tang and sweetness.

As with most fast food chain restaurants, the flour tortilla feels the same as most of the tortillas you buy at the supermarket. It's soft throughout and could use some grill time for a bit of crispness or charring.

When it comes down to it, Wendy's Sausage, Egg & Cheese Burrito was just too bland for my liking and not much different from a frozen breakfast burrito. It could be helped along by a more robust salsa or maybe some cheddar cheese. For the same price, you can get their meatier, richer, and more indulgent Sausage Biscuit.
