Review: Hostess - Glazed Twinkies Bouncers

Hostess Glazed Twinkies Bouncers feature glazed balls of Twinkies golden sponge cake with a vanilla creme filling.

An 8.62-oz box normally costs around $4 to $5 but I received this courtesy of Hostess.

There weren't really any surprises here as the Glazed Twinkles Bouncers tasted exactly like a Twinkie but with a sweet packaged donut-type glaze (which is to say it didn't have the slightly crisped, flaky glaze that find on a fresh donut, which is understandable). The glaze added an additional layer of sweetness and a bit of a donut hole feel.

Underneath was a somewhat tacky, soft, sponge cake dough. Just for kicks, I tossed one on the table and it (expectedly) did not bounce. Maybe they named them "Bouncers" because they look like they might bounce.

Inside each snack cake is about the same amount of vanilla creme as you'd get in a third of a Twinkie. The creme had a taste and texture similar to whipped topping with a very mild vanilla flavor.

When it comes down to it, Hostess Glazed Twinkies Bouncers main draw seems to be a novelty factor and an extra bit of sweetness (or maybe you really want to share a Twinkie with two friends and aren't too great at tearing/breaking it evenly). They taste nice enough but they do end up costing more than a box of Twinkies (which are around $3.50 for a box of 10).
