Review: Rockstar Punched Pineapple Aguas Frescas

PepsiCo's Rockstar Punched Pineapple Aguas Frescas combines energy drink with pineapple juice and natural sweeteners like agave syrup and stevia leaf extract.

I received this can courtesy of PepsiCo, but a 12-pack of 16-fl-oz cans will cost $17.99 normally.

The Rockstar Punched Pineapple Aguas Frescas is lightly carbonated compared to most sodas and energy drinks. It has a fruit-forward aroma that's a mixture of tropical and typical energy drink, which smells somewhat tangy and salty to me.

As far as flavor combinations go, I think the pineapple was pretty successful in masking both the energy drink taste as well as the stevia leaf extract, which tastes similarly bitter and cloying to artificial sweeteners on my palate. There is a slightly tart flavor that mimics fresh pineapple. The sweetness level is lower than typical for energy drinks, which contributes to its refreshing quality.

Overall, I enjoyed the Rockstar Punched Pineapple Aguas Frescas. I thought the pineapple juice mixed surprisingly well with the energy drink taste. Of the different aguas frescas-
themed drinks I've tried this summer, I would say that the Rockstar Punched Pineapple Aguas Frescas was the best executed.
