An 18-oz cake cost me $5.49. The lemon cake is a seasonal spring offering, but it was still available at my local Trader Joe's store. They're phasing in the Strawberry Mini Sheet Cake for the summer ("strawberry cake with strawberry cream cheese frosting").
Popping open the lid freed a strong, refreshing lemony scent that portended things to come.
The cake and frosting were super lemony without being too tangy.
The cake had a tight, uniform crumb that was moist, flavorful, and slightly sweet.
The frosting was rich and creamy with a buttery note (apparently, the frosting is a combination of cream cheese and butter). It was very sweet with a more intense lemon flavor than the cake portion. There was a fairly thick layer of it atop the cake, but it's easily spread, and you can remove some if it's too sweet for your liking.
Overall, Trader Joe's Lemon Flavored Mini Sheet Cake was very enjoyable and chock-full of lemon flavor. It's meant to serve up to six people and is nice to share for a small gathering (or enjoyed alone over several days).
