It cost me $2.99 for one.
I last had one of these over 10 years ago (i.e., the pre-quarter days), so I thought it'd be fun to see if anything has changed from what I remember.
When I previously reviewed the Chili Cheese Burrito, it was very liquid with a high potential of causing a mess. Fortunately, the years have been kind (or I was just lucky), and this particular Chili Cheese Burrito was less watery and didn't threaten to spill out with every bite I took.
Texture-wise, the chili is similar to Taco Bell's seasoned ground beef, only with more liquid. The cheese was thoroughly melted, and the flour tortilla was soft but sturdy.
As far as how it tastes, it's a pretty standard beef chili. It's enjoyable but not particularly outstanding. There's a tomato base with typical chili spices (garlic, onion, chili powder, etc.). There's just a bare hint of heat to it. It's joined by a bit of generic creaminess from the very mild cheese.
If you want a handheld chili, it's not a bad way to go and is certainly meatier than your typical Taco Bell fare. It's one of the rare Taco Bell savory menu items that doesn't taste like anything else on the menu. For the purposes of the review, I got it without any customizations, but I'd recommend adding onions (free at my local Taco Bell, but some locations charge for them) and getting it grilled for extra flavor and texture.
