Local Review: Porto's Bakery - Potato Ball

Porto Bakery Potato Balls
Porto's Bakery's Potato Ball is one of their most popular items. It features a slightly-bigger-than-golf-ball-sized mashed potato ball with a meat filling and a fried crust of fine breading. One Potato Ball will run you about 85 cents.

The very idea of a Potato Ball is just one of those ideas I can really get behind. It's meat and potatoes as an hors d'oeuvre!

In practice, they are good but not quite great. I like them, but it's not something I crave.

The breading is a nice touch and adds a nice slightly grainy contrast to the smooth mashed potatoes. The meat filling has bits of onions and red bell peppers. It's not overly salted and tastes a little like taco meat. If I were to guess, I'd say the main seasoning is cumin? But that's really just a guess.

One of my cousins loves these things though.
