Review: El Pollo Loco - Sweet Corn Cake

Another new premium side at El Pollo Loco, the Sweet Corn Cake is a corn meal cake with corn kernels baked in. The price is in line with the other new premium sides at $1.79 for a small and $3.99 for a large.

I would best describe El Pollo Loco's Sweet Corn Cake as similar to corn bread but mealier (like a tamale) and not as cohesive. It's generally sweeter than most corn bread I've eaten with a little bit of honey flavor.

As you can see from the picture, it's not really a cake; it doesn't hold together at all really and you couldn't pick it up and eat it except in very small pieces.

It's not bad and interesting enough but I think I'd rather just eat some corn bread.

  2. Its actually a common side in Mexican dishes. I think the review might have had a little bit of an ignorant stand point

  3. True but there are certain things I don't think I'd like so much in cake form such as meat or spinach.
