Review: Jack in the Box - Jalapeño Double Cheeseburger

I drove past a Jack in the Box, saw the new Jalapeño Double Cheeseburger in the window and stopped in for a try. The burger is about the same size as the All American Jack and features two beef patties, two slices of American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, sliced jalapeños, and what is either a Thousand Island sauce or a chipotle mayo for $3.99.

I'm not sure if the burger is available nationally or just locally but the Jalapeño Double Cheeseburger has, as of yet, not made an appearance on the Jack in the Box website or anywhere online really.
Like the All American Jack, Jack's Jalapeno Double Cheeseburger is quite the big burger. I'm not a big eater so I actually had half for lunch and the other half a couple hours later.

It wasn't anything novel but the Jalapeno Double Cheeseburger is pretty good; very meaty with a good amount of char (your mileage on char may vary) and decently cheesy. All the vegetables on the one I got was good, fresh, and flavorful. The burger was spicy but not that spicy; just enough for a low burn that never gets uncomfortable. The jalapeno flavor was more what I was expecting from the Jalapeno Cheddar McChicken but there could have been a couple more in the burger.
The sauce was was very liquidy (possibly from water from the lettuce) and weak in flavor. I wasn't sure if it was a chipotle mayo or a Thousand Island. I sometimes imagined I tasted a bit of smokiness but I wasn't sure. Either way, it was much better than the "secret" sauce they use for the Bonus Jack.

All-in-all, a pretty good fast food burger but a little too big for me.

  1. I can envision the bun becoming soggy due to apparent ample liquidy material to transfer into the bun.

Poking around to ascertain availability I saw a site saying the critter is at the midway point between 400 and 500 calories.

That's not too bad for a BIG burger..... especially compared to some of the hugely high-calorie critters awaiting your fangs.

    Hmmmm.....

ample hits for one of the competitors' offerings with the same burger name.

Well, no Jack in the Box in my area anyway so the pics above will have to do.
