Review: Jack in the Box - Cholula Buttery Jack

Jack in the Box's Cholula Buttery Jack features Cholula brand hot sauce, crispy-fried jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, signature beef patty, and melted garlic herb butter on a toasted signature bun.

I got one for $5.19.

Beyond the standard burger trappings, the ingredient that stood out to me was the crispy-fried jalapenos. They didn't taste much like jalapenos (and looked somewhat like battered and fried leaves) but introduced a spicy pickled flavor and a very nice, almost chip-like crunch.

The Cholula hot sauce itself was applied lightly and offered a slight heat and vinegary tang. Between the hot sauce and the jalapenos, the burger was tangy but not too tangy.

The cheese looked to be just regular Monterey jack rather than pepper jack and contributed a melty, creamy counterpoint to the hot sauce and jalapenos. The beef was juicy but for whatever reason didn't have the same buttery flavor as I'm used to for the Buttery Jack line.

The tomato and lettuce were mostly nice, although I received a whole leaf of lettuce that I managed to cram into the burger.

For the most part, Jack in the Box's Cholula Buttery Jack comes together as a fairly standard burger, albeit a tasty and well-executed one, with the addition of a decent spicy kick and an extra bit of crispy crunch.
