Review: Starbucks - Chicken Sausage & Bacon Biscuit

Starbucks' Chicken Sausage & Bacon Biscuit features a chicken sausage patty, double-smoked bacon, country-style gravy, and honey chipotle butter on a cornbread biscuit.

I picked one up for $4.95.

The generically named Chicken Sausage & Bacon Biscuit differentiates itself from the breakfast sandwich field with components not mentioned or alluded to in the product name--namely, the country-style gravy and cornbread biscuit.

While sporting a creamy consistency, the gravy didn't stand out much against the sausage, bacon, and biscuit. It could have used more of a peppery bite or meatiness to stand out more or, failing that, they could have just put more of it in the sandwich. Similarly, the honey chipotle butter did not make much of an impact and I wouldn't have known it was there without reading the ingredients.

The biscuit provided a bit more interest as it sported the soft, fluffy texture of a biscuit with the sweet corn flavor of cornbread. Before trying it, I thought it would veer one way or the other, but it did indeed feel like a cornbread biscuit.

The chicken sausage was juicy and well-seasoned and the bacon was flavorful if not remarkably smokier than the standard. As usual for sandwiches heated up in a turbo convection oven, the bacon wasn't crispy at all.

Overall, Starbucks' Chicken Sausage & Bacon Biscuit was enjoyable but not all that interesting despite the gravy and cornbread biscuit as they weren't quite showcased by the sandwich. They might have done better to forgo the bacon for more gravy for more of a novel quality.
