Review: Lime YQ by Yoplait

Lime-flavored YQ by Yoplait is not technically "yogurt" as defined by the FDA as it's not made with traditional milk. Instead, it's yogurt made with ultra-filtered milk.

It costs $1.49 for a 5.3-oz cup, which is about the same price as Greek yogurt (with which it shares a similar protein content of about 15 grams per cup). If you're curious about the "YQ" name, apparently, it's a play on IQ as the yogurt is positioned as smarter play versus other yogurt brands/types.

It had separated a little when I opened the cup but a quick stir gave it a smooth, even consistency. Interestingly, it thickened as I mixed it (whereas Greek yogurt, which is not meant to be stirred, thins out if you do so). The texture was similar to cake batter with a clingy gooey quality to it.

In taste, it was very mild and pleasant with just a hint of sweetness. It was lightly creamy with citrus notes but was not tangy or sour at all. It's basically like the agua frescas of yogurt.

Overall, Lime YQ by Yoplait is pretty good as long as you're looking for something with a little more punch in your yogurt. The thick texture makes it feel more like you're eating substantial and it's ideal if you're looking for a flavored yogurt with less sugar but not made with sugar substitutes.
