Review: Hostess - Cinnamon Donettes Bouncers

Hostess Cinnamon Donettes Bouncers feature glazed mini cake donuts with a creme filling.

An 9.63-oz box normally costs around $4 to $5 but I received this courtesy of Hostess.

Each box contains five individually-wrapped packs of three Bouncers snack cakes. Opening a pack yielded a strong cinnamon aroma.

While Cinnamon Donettes Bouncers (they don't actually bounce) are described on the box as "mini cake donuts," they're more like donut hole-shaped snack cakes. They have a much denser structure inside versus a Donettes mini donut and don't appear to have been fried (although I'm not sure Donettes are fried either). The cake portion was moist, soft, and sweet with a fairly strong cinnamon flavor. Additionally, the cake didn't seem as tacky as a Twinkie.

The glaze on the outside was a little thicker than you typically find on a glazed donut and had a soft, smooth texture throughout.

The creme filling in the center was decently creamy and seemed a bit thicker than the typical whipped topping feel that I usually associate with Hostess cakes. It went well with the cinnamon of the cake.

Overall, Hostess Cinnamon Donettes Bouncers turned out fairly well with a bit of a cinnamon-coffee-cake-with-frosting feel to it. Despite the name, they felt a bit different than mini donuts but I wouldn't say that's a bad thing unless you really had your heart set on packaged mini donuts.
