Frozen Friday: Stouffer's - Chicken a la King

I've always been curious about what Chicken a la King was (although not curious enough to actually look it up) and so it was only natural that I picked up a box when I saw it in the frozen food aisle.

Stouffer's Chicken a la King features white meat chicken in a creamy sauce with mushrooms, onions, celery, and peas with white rice (it seems more common to serve it over pasta or some sort of bread though).

An 11.5-ounce box sells for $3.69 at regular price or around $2.50 on sale.

I was pretty surprised at how the rice turned out: nice and fluffy and not soggy despite the cream sauce.
The sauce itself reminds me a bit of chicken gravy and pot pies but not as salty. Actually, chicken a la king (at least this version of it) reminds me a lot of pot pie filling but over rice.

The chicken was tasty, moist, and plentiful and the vegetables added varied flavors and textures. It actually looks a lot like the picture on the box. I know right?!
I liked Stouffer's Chicken a la King a lot: the blend of rice, chicken, veggies, and a creamy gravy makes for some good eats. I'm glad I tried it.

  1. Turkey a la king is one thing I can expect to have at least once in the week following Thanksgiving. My mom uses plain white toast instead of rice. Truly, the a la king of bland leftovers cooking.
