Review: Papa John's - Pepperoni Rolls

Papa John's Pepperoni Rolls feature pepperoni plus Fontina, Asiago, and provolone cheeses with ranch sauce rolled in fresh pizza dough and then baked.

I picked up an order, which included six rolls, for $5.

Each rolls was good for maybe three normal bites or one humongous mouthful. They were baked until they each had a nice, thin, crispy crust.

Inside there was a good amount of pepperoni and a soft, chewy crumb. There was enough meat for every bite and it offered a greasy, smoky, peppery flavor with just a little bit of a kick. Unfortunately, the cheese only made the occasional appearance although it offered a savory sharp and salty bite in such moments.

If there was ranch sauce in my rolls, I couldn't taste it, which was a good thing really as I don't think I'd appreciate the tangy, herb notes with the pepperoni and cheese.

I went with Papa John's signature buttery garlic sauce for dipping but found that the Pepperoni Rolls lost their distinctiveness when dipped and turned into a breadstick ball.

Overall, Papa John's Pepperoni Rolls were pretty good but need a bit more in the cheese department to be great. I wouldn't recommend them with dipping sauce given the lack.
