Review: Whole Foods - Tandoori Chicken Samosas

Whole Foods Tandoori Chicken Samosas feature "petite wheat flour pastries filled with savory chicken and onion slowly roasted in a fragrant blend of garlic and Southeast Asian spices and mixed with tangy lemon yogurt.

A 7.5-oz box sells for $2.99, which makes these one of the few items I've found where Whole Foods is actually cheaper than other brands (Trader Joe's similar Chicken Tikki Samosas are $3.99 for an 8.5-oz box and Tandoor Chef's Tandoori Chicken Samosas are $3.99 for a 7.5-oz box).

These aren't recommended for the microwave so I cooked them in the toaster oven and they turned out pretty well with a slightly crispy crust that held together well and didn't leak or pop while cooking. It was dry rather than greasy.

Inside the chicken was shredded into small pieces but not so much that it felt like a paste or like ground meat. The chicken was juicy and the shreds meant that it picked up and absorbed more of the yogurt and spices than you'd normally get with tandoori chicken.

Flavor-wise, the filling was tangy and a little sweet with a strong seasoned profile and just a slightly spicy kick.

At the end of the day, Whole Foods Tandoori Chicken Samosas offers a punched up take on tandoori chicken in portable and snackable form. Both the flavors and textures are spot on.
