Burger King to Test Reusable Containers at Select Restaurants Starting in 2021

Burger King partners with TerraCycle to test the Loop reusable packaging service at select restaurants starting in 2021 as a way to reduce waste.

At test locations, customers will have the option of getting their food and drinks in reusable containers and cups. The containers and cups can then be returned to participating locations and cleaned, sanitized, and reused through the Loop system. To ensure the return of reusable packaging, a deposit is required when opting for it and returned when it's brought back.

Burger King plans to offer the service at select locations in New York City, Portland, and Tokyo starting in 2021 with a planned expansion to more cities in the ensuing months.

The test comes as part of Burger King commitment to source all customer packaging from renewable, recycled, or certified sources by 2025. They also plan to recycle customer packaging in all US and Canadian Burger King restaurants by 2025.
