Review: McDonald's Strawberry Shortcake McFlurry

McDonald's Strawberry Shortcake McFlurry features vanilla soft serve mixed with strawberry-flavored clusters and buttery shortbread cookie pieces.

I paid $3.49 for the Strawberry Shortcake McFlurry.

The vanilla soft serve was firm but not icy. It was easy enough to scoop but not well mixed as most of the mix-ins were sitting on top in sundae fashion.

Both the strawberry-flavored clusters and shortbread cookie pieces were nice and crunchy but there was a fair amount of cluster and cookie dust to my particular McFlurry--like when you get to the bottom of a bag of cereal. The strawberry-flavored clusters were airy and crunchy and both tasted, smelled, and felt like strawberry-flavored cereal (according to the ingredients, they're basically confectionary-coated crisped rice). It was moderately sweet with a decent strawberry flavor but was not tart or tangy.

The shortbread cookie pieces provided a denser, harder crunch and a slightly buttery flavor.

Overall, McDonald's Strawberry Shortcake McFlurry made for a nice frozen dessert with a mild strawberry component and an enjoyable crunch but felt more like strawberry cereal than strawberry shortcake. Strawberry sauce, jam, or just strawberries would have fit in very well here.
