Review: Ono Hawaiian BBQ - Hamburger Steak Plate

A Hawaiian BBQ staple (and also quite popular in Japan) is the Hamburger Steak which at Ono Hawaiian BBQ means two hamburger patties smothered in homemade gravy.

The Hamburger Steak Plate came with the same macaroni salad and steamed rice as the BBQ Chicken & Beef Plate. While the hamburger patties were not particularly juicy, they weren't dry either and had a bit of char to them.

The thing about the Hamburger Steak Plate that I did not care for was the gravy.  While it appears to be a brown gravy, it had a teriyaki-like sweetness that I did not like at all. Maybe, I've eaten too many Salsbury Steak TV dinners but I prefer a wholly savory brown gravy with my hamburger patties (well, when I want gravy at all anyway...) rather than savory sweetness.

So unless you crave savory sweetness with your hamburger steak, you should pass on Ono Hawaiian BBQ's Hamburger Steak Plate.
