Review: McDonald's - New Premium Crispy Chicken Club Sandwich

I walked into my local McDonald's the other day and found out that they had tweaked their line of premium chicken sandwiches with (as the manager explained to me) a new bun and a lower sodium count on the chicken. Intrigued, I ordered a new Premium Crispy Chicken Club Sandwich for $4.29.

The sandwich features a new crispy chicken breast fillet, tomato slice, bacon, natural Swiss cheese, mayo and leaf lettuce on a toasted bakery-style bun.

A bakery-style bun boasting 8 grams of whole wheat replaces the previous honey wheat bakery-style roll. I have to say, I liked it much better, it feels less like store bought bread than the old roll which was soft and uniform all the way to the crust. The new bun feels a little hardier and provides slightly more texture. I like the look better as well.
I can't say that the chicken was noticeably less salty but I'm all for less sodium. Unlike the last time I tried the Premium Chicken Club Sandwich, the bacon was more flavorful and abundant with a good crisp to it. The bacon was still thin but a little thicker than the fast food standard although not Wendy's thick.
The lettuce held up better this go round and the Swiss cheese was the proper texture and taste. This is the type of cheese I would like to see on the new McChicken variants.
Based on my previous experience with the old one, I was pleasantly surprised at McDonald's new Premium Chicken Club which was a quality and throughly enjoyable experience. The Sister was surprised at how tasty the sandwich was as well.

  1. I'm disappointed in the new bread, it really doesn't taste all that good, and the club is 3rd less with the same price.

P.S.  That's actually the club not the premium.  the premium doesn't have bacon or cheese.  It looks like there also trying to save money by putting them both in the same box now.

  3. Did you happen to notice that they are using
this chicken for the southern style now? At least that's
the case at both the local one here in central PA. I hate mcdonalds
chicken now. *sigh* the southern used to be so good.

  4. The southern style chicken was pretty good, that's weird they'd change it. It was pretty juicy for a fast food chicken sandwich

  5. Great review. I'm not a huge fan of their old premium chicken sandwiches. It's not that they were terrible, but for the price, they were lacking in a couple areas. This looks much better, especially the bun. That old whole wheat thing they were trying to pull off was just not working for me. I look forward to trying one of these!

  6.  Last time I tried to get a southern style was right before they made it different. Unfortunately they gave me a fish patty instead... imagine how displeased I was when I got back. Thank goodness they gave me a refund and some other things after I got home and opened the box of disappointment. Anyways I'm going to miss it too

  7. Is the box container "prettier" than the typical cardboard-box-type/style containers of the past; such as seen with Big Macs?

Not that packaging is a critical item with me.

Sure, if those plastic or foam or whatever those containers of the increasingly distant past were made of that some cities, etc. have banned, outlawed, forbidden from infesting their burghs for various reasons are harmful to folks or furry critters or whatever then, sure.... quit using the things.

    Cardboard containers have benefits.

When is their going to be a poll or contest or whatever rating packaging?

    Many possibilities!!!!

Attractiveness, functionality, environmental friendliness or grumpiness and many other aspects.

Have a user poll/input/whatever or the site controller conduct a study or....... heck!!! Pert-near anything!!!!

In my never humble Disgruntled Old Coot opinion an article or articles covering the packaging aspect of the fare mentioned within Brand Eating would be of great interest!!!

    You betcha!!!!

  9. This sandwich sucks!  I used to go to McDonalds only for their old premium chicken sandwiches.  With this change, I won't be frequenting McDonalds at all ...

  10. I work for McDonald's and the number 6 7 8 are all premium chicken sandwiches. The only premium sandwich of the three that doesn't have bacon is the classic just thought you should get your facts straight. Also, the club is my smaller of that's why you were trying to say. In fact the size of the chicken is actually larger ten they used to be. You might want to brush up on facts bro. If your not happy with a sandwich that's your prerogative but atheist get your info right

  11. Worked for cdonalds for years they have always used the same chicken for the southern style as they do or the premium sandwiches. They did as mentioned in this post get new chicken but its always been the same for both across the board

  12. I doubt you will see this since it's so old. I'm a manager at McDonalds and as I've said, I love when you review our products. I have to say though, your crew at that store assembled that very wrong. As you know, a lot of different flavoring can come out of placement of the food. The cheese is in the wrong spot and so it the tomato, infact they should be swapped. The lettuce should have also had the ends broken of with the leaf being spread across the sandwich.

  13. Ah, I see what you mean. I actually read all the comments... it hasn't yet gotten to the point where there are so many that I can't... yet.

  14. I like ChickenSunday, May 12, 2013

I noticed that the chicken in the sandwich gets smaller also. Only covers about 2/3 of the bun.
