Review: Burger King - Deluxe BK Topper Burger

The Deluxe BK Topper is a Big Mac-like burger that's part of Burger King's new, limited-time BK Toppers line. It comes with a 3.2-ounce burger patty topped with American cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, and Stacker sauce on a sesame seed bun.

It offers a decent value at $1.99 for a slightly thicker, larger patty (versus 2-ounce for the regular BK patty) without reaming the bottom line for BK franchisees.

The Deluxe unsurprisingly tastes a lot like a Big Mac but meatier and with more crunchier, substantial pickle slices.

Unfortunately, on this occasion, I had the driest patties I've ever had at a Burger King. It was like all the moisture in the beef patty was sucked out (and I happened to try all three BK Toppers on the same day too...). I don't know if the patties were overcooked because they are thicker or if they had been sitting in a warming bin for too long but they were dry... like shoe leather dry.
Disregarding the egregious patty, the Deluxe BK Topper is not a bad buy if you're looking for Big Mac like sandwich at Burger King. But for a little more (or the same price depending of price variants), you can get the meatier, cheesier charbroiled Big Carl at Carl's Jr. which is an altogether superior burger. Still, it compares well to Big Mac and has nice pickles.

  2. Contemplating... pondering... envisioning the ground-up dead cow used within BK where said cow remnants are cooked then used to concoct a whole that is sold to the public.

"Burger King developed a, new variable speed broiler that could handle
multiple items with different cooking rates and times. These new unit
began testing in 1999 and eventually evolved into the two models the
company deployed system-wide in 2008–2009. Accompanying these new
broilers was new food-holding equipment and a computer-based product
monitoring system for its cooked products."

Perhaps the dead cow has leaner meat?

    Over-cooked?
Fear of biological contaminants from the supply chain beyond BK's control?

Broiling beyond the recommended 165 degrees to destroy contaminants and any toxins created by those contaminants?

Toxins are basically bacterial waste products.

Death via bacteria turds the headline could read.

    So many possible variables.

Fodder for local discussion groups to muster and discuss.

    Food for thought. I suppose.

I need a life to reduce my shanty-bound pondering.
