Frozen Friday: Hot Pockets - Ham & Cheddar Snack Bites

Hot Pockets Hickory Ham & Cheddar Snack Bites are bite-sized, triangular versions of their regular-sized savory turnovers.

A 9.25-oz bag goes for $2.89 at my local supermarket, but I received this courtesy of Hot Pockets.

These don't come with a crisping sleeve like the original Hot Pockets so you're not going to get a crispy shell on them unless you use an oven. I cooked them all in the microwave, but toasted the three on the left for comparison's sake:

They don't look very different visually (the toasted ones are just very slightly browner in some spots), but toasting (I imagine a hot pan would work as well) gave them a light, crisped shell.

In terms of flakiness, there are layers but they don't make much of an impact texture-wise. Also, with the triangular shape and relatively thick shell, it's very doughy at the corners.

For the most part, the classic ham and cheddar combo remains the same as in the larger version. The cheddar is mild, while the diced pieces of ham are overly smooth but with a nice, salty smokiness to them.

Overall, Hot Pockets Hickory Ham & Cheddar Snack Bites are nice enough. The filling was tasty but the shell was just okay. I wouldn't pick them over some pizza rolls.
