Review: Jack in the Box - BBQ Double Bacon Cheeseburger

Jack in the Box's BBQ Double Bacon Cheeseburger features two beef patties, onion rings, American cheese, bacon, and barbecue sauce on a plain toasted bun.

It cost $4.99 as part of a combo that also includes a small order of fries and a small fountain drink.

The burger is around the size of Wendy's Giant JBC and is bigger than a McDonald's McDouble.

The barbecue sauce was mostly smoky and sweet with a light tang. They applied a thin layer of it on each half of the bun, which was a little surprising (but pleasantly so) given the tendency to put down enough sauce to soak the other ingredients at most fast food establishments.

Jack in the Box lags in the bacon department as far as fast food chains and this instance was no exception. There was a light crispness but not much flavor to the bacon.

The onions were crispy but were a little overcooked and slightly chewy. They seemed to be mostly breading without much onion (probably due to them shriveling from being fried a bit too long).

The beef and cheese were pretty nice with good covered from edge-to-edge. The patties were moist, while the cheese was creamy and melted. They hit a sweet spot insofar as the meat-to-cheese ratio goes.

At the end of the day, Jack in the Box's BBQ Double Bacon Cheeseburger marks a solid foray into the "Western" cheeseburger arena. It hits the right notes and textures while offering a generous amount of meat and cheese in every bite.
