Review: Krispy Kreme - Strawberry Glazed Donut and Strawberry Kreme Filled Donut

Krispy Kreme's Strawberry Glazed Donut features an Original Glazed Donut covered in a strawberry glaze instead of the chain's signature glaze. The Strawberry Kreme Filled Donut takes a Strawberry Glazed Doughnut and pumps it with Strawberry Kreme filling.

A half-and-half dozen of the donuts goes for $14.49 in my area (the same price as an assorted dozen) but I received these courtesy of Krispy Kreme.

The strawberry glaze was not all that different from Krispy Kreme's regular strawberry icing but it did have a more tart strawberry flavor to it and, visually, was speckled with what appeared to be strawberry bits. It didn't dry and fleck off like the chain's Original Glaze. It's more gooey instead but was just as sweet.

The Strawberry Kreme Filled Donut delivered an extra boost of strawberry flavor and sweetness. The strawberry Kreme was tart but slightly less so than the strawberry glaze and added a whipped cream-like texture.

The donut portion of both donuts was quite fresh with that soft, airy cloud-like texture that Krispy Kreme's Original Glazed Donut is known for. Generally, these will be fresher than the chain's other donuts as they're made throughout the day rather than arriving each morning.

Overall, both Krispy Kreme's Strawberry Glazed Donut and Strawberry Kreme Filled Donut were pretty good and fit the spring season well by pairing fresh donuts with a decent amount of sweet strawberry flavor. I liked the Strawberry Glazed Donut a little better as it offered a better balance between the sweet components and the donut portion.
