Review: McDonald's - Deluxe Crispy Chicken Sandwich

McDonald's Deluxe Crispy Chicken Sandwich features a crispy-fried chicken filet served with Roma tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and mayo on a toasted potato roll.

I paid $5.19 for one.

The new crispy-fried chicken filet felt a bit shoehorned into the trappings of a classic fast food chicken sandwich (lettuce, tomato, mayo, and chicken). The more nuanced flavors of the chicken got a little lost as there's more filler (lettuce and tomato) and richness (mayo) versus the regular Crispy Chicken Sandwich. However, the chicken was crispy and juicy.

While the chicken turned out great, the Deluxe portion was not so great. The iceberg lettuce was lacking in crispness with occasional yellowed bits. The Roma tomatoes were decent quality but the smaller, oval shape of them meant the slices shifted a fair bit, which resulted in the shredded lettuce falling out a number of times for overall messy eating.

The potato bun turned out worse than in the regular and spicy versions of the sandwich that I tried. It was hard and a little chewy. I'm not sure why that was the case. Maybe it dried out due to being in a clamshell box rather than a foil bag like the other two (otherwise the lettuce would wilt) or maybe it was toasted on both sides? I don't really know but the result was subpar.

Overall, McDonald's Deluxe Crispy Chicken Sandwich didn't seem worth the extra cost (the regular Crispy Chicken Sandwich is $4.59 near me) as it turned out worse than the regular and spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwiches and it's not like the added lettuce and tomato do much in the flavor or nutrition department.
