Review: Papa Johns - Crispy Parm Crust Pizza

Papa Johns' Crispy Parm Crust Pizza features a large pizza with toasted parmesan and romano cheese baked on the underside of the chain's signature thin crust.

I went with the Deluxe Cheese Crispy Parm Crust Pizza, which comes topped with both Alfredo and pizza sauces, cheese, and Italian seasoning. It costs $12.99 but I received this courtesy of Papa Johns.

From what I could tell, the Deluxe Cheese topping option amounted to a fairly standard cheese pizza with a swirl of Alfredo sauce and Italian seasoning on top. There was a nice even coat of melted cheese and an extra creaminess from the Alfredo sauce. The flavor of the Italian seasoning was a bit sparse however. There was a fair amount of sweetness and tang from the pizza sauce.

Papa John's thin crust offered a thin and flaky crispy base for the pizza. The newness is in the layer of toasted parmesan and romano cheese on the underside, which was good for an extra layer of nutty, toasty notes as well as additional crispiness.

Taken altogether, Papa Johns Crispy Parm Crust Pizza made for a welcome but slight change to their regular thin crust pizza. The extra toasty cheese flavor was especially nice against the backdrop of a standard cheese pizza. I wonder if it would be even nicer on the chain's regular hand-tossed crust, which tends to be a bit soft and could use that extra bit of crispiness.
