Review: Papa Johns - Hot Lemon Pepper Wings

Papa Johns' Hot Lemon Pepper Wings feature oven-roasted, chicken wing segments tossed in a sauce that Papa Johns describes as offering "a kick of mild heat and zest."

An 8-piece order costs $10.99 near me but I received this courtesy of Papa Johns.

As has been my general experience with oven-baked/roasted wings, there wasn't much in the way of crispiness to the wings (mostly at the ends), especially as they come smothered in a generous amount of sauce.

The sauce was more than a mild heat to me. I found it to be very spicy and enough to make my nose start to run but not so much that I had to rest in between bites. The included ranch helped keep the heat in check but also added to the saltiness. Beyond the heat, there was a definite tangy, zesty, lemony quality. Basically, it was similar to Buffalo sauce except with lemon instead of vinegar (I remember their Buffalo wings not being as spicy though...).

The wings were average in size and fairly juicy inside.

Overall, Papa Johns Hot Lemon Pepper Wings turned out decently enough as far as oven-baked wings go but the sauce was a bit too tangy for my liking and I would have preferred more seasonings/spices to break it up a bit. It might be your cup of tea if you prefer spicy, tangy, and saucy wings.
