Review: Pizza Hut - Double Pepperoni Big New Yorker Pizza

Pizza Hut's Double Pepperoni Big New York pizza features a 16" (extra-large) pizza cut into six over-sized, foldable slices topped with regular pepperoni, crispy cup pepperoni, and Parmesan oregano seasoning on top. It comes topped with sweet tomato sauce rather than the chain's traditional marinara.

I paid $13.99 for the pizza.

I'm not sure if it made to spec, but my particular pizza was enjoyable crispy at both the end-crust and, in some parts, underneath (but yet, somehow, wasn't all that browned). However, it was also a little bit dry and there was still quite a bit of sag towards the tip of each very large slice, which almost necessitated folding. One slice cracked/tore a fair bit near the crust end when I folded it.

The sweet tomato sauce might be sweeter than Pizza Hut's traditional marinara but they spread it quite sparingly, which was actually pretty nice as it allowed the cheese and pepperoni to better shine. There's a bit of sweetness from both the sauce and crust but it was more of an underlying hint.

True to most major pizza chain's the cheese didn't offer much in the way of a cheese pull or stretch. The Parmesan oregano seasoning seemed to be mostly parmesan and added an extra hit of saltiness and flavor.

The pepperonis offered a nice crispiness and salty flavor as well as a just a bit of peppery spice. The crispy cup pepperonis seemed just a touch crispier and more flavorful.

Overall, Pizza Hut's Double Pepperoni Big New Yorker Pizza turned out pretty well. It was flavorful, balanced, and cheesy with a good amount of crispiness. If it was a bit dry, I'll still take it over a soft, bready crust.
