Let me start out by saying I am not a Hungry-Man, a pound of food is a bit much for me so I typically split one of theses with one of the siblings. That being said, this is one of the better frozen dinners I've had lately.
The beef patties just taste and look like Salisbury steak to me, except they have nice grill marks. It's not as good as forming and grilling your own, but then again, it's a lot faster and cheaper to make. The meat was juicy and had the requisite coarse texture. It's missing a nice crust from grilling or searing but hey, that's what you sacrifice with microwave cooking.
The gravy tastes like the same thin brown gravy as Salisbury steak, except with onions in it. The potatoes were soft, seasoned, and not too salty. Adding bacon to the green beans was a nice touch; it adds a nice bacon flavor that meshed well with the green beans. I would have loved it if the bacon was crispy, but again, this is microwave cooking.
Overall, I enjoyed Swanson's Hungry-Man Chopped Beef Steak dinner and whatever shortcomings it had stemmed more from the medium than the dish itself.
