Review: Starbucks - Iced Cocoa Cappuccino

Starbucks Cocoa Cappuccino is the first new drink to bear their new wordless logo as the brand moves to mean more than coffee. It features your typical Starbucks Cappuccino paired with a bittersweet mocha sauce.

It's available hot or iced and since the weather has been warming up a bit lately, I picked up an iced 12-ounce Tall recently for $3.55 (compared to about $2.65 for a regular Tall Cappuccino).

I've never gotten an iced cappuccino before so visually it's a little new for me (at least the way Starbucks serves it), there's a dark chocolate brown coffee layer with a good-sized foam layer atop and then a drizzle of the bittersweet mocha sauce to finish.

Taste-wise, the Cocoa Cappuccino not as sweet as a comparable Mocha. There's more of a coffee flavor and a richer, darker chocolate flavor but is not as creamy. I like it better than the Mocha; I liked that it was less sweet and more chocolate-y. If you want even more coffee taste (and/or more caffeine), I'd suggest going with a 16-ounce Grande instead of a Tall since in addition to the extra four ounces, it also sports two shots of espresso instead of the one found in a Tall.

At the end of the day, the Cocoa Cappuccino's a good drink to buy if you want more coffee and chocolate flavor but don't mind less sugar.

  1. Problem is that when I order it now, the barista looks at me and asks others if it exists. I no longer can get it :(
