A box of 8 individually-wrapped cakes is priced around $3.99 but I picked this box up on sale for $2.50.
Since starting Brand Eating, there have been very few times where I ate something for review and thought, "This is horrible." But Hostess's Strawberry CupCakes are horrible.
And, just in case I was imagining things, I had both The Sister and The Sister-in-law guinea pig two of them. Neither of them finished their cupcakes and one commented, "Maybe, it was a bad batch?" to which I replied, "I don't know but I'm not buying another box to find out." Besides, it's not like it tastes spoiled or anything, the flavor and textures were just bad. Other comments thrown about included "Don't they have product testers?" and "I can't finish this..."
This one is definitely on the short list of "worst things I've ever eaten for The Blog."

ReplyDeleteIt tastes exactly like the Strawberry Cake boxed cake mix cake to me. It even smells the same. I was SO excited to try these, but like you I had trouble even finishing it. It just was soooo fake tasting. I'm not sure what I expected since it's a snack cake but still.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe what I'm reading! You're entitled to your opinion but my husband and I both LOVE these cupcakes! I just googled them 2 c if anyone else feels the same. We go 2 our walmart the day of the shipment and they usually only have 1 or 2 box left. I usually make boxed cupcake mixes jazzed up but these are a decent replacement on weeks I'm feelin lazy. Normally I would be offended if he even mentioned buying sweets... They're moist, the frosting is not at all waxy (that's something I'm really picky about), I love the ones where it's kinda dripped down the side! Mmm! the filling is their usual white filling but goes well. The stawberry flavor is definately not overwhelming but to someone who's used to everything but strawberry cupcakes it's definately a 10/10 for me.

ReplyDeleteThe first bite I ever took out of one of these, it felt like fireworks went off in my mouth. These are SOOO addicting!! I can't even put my love into words. They're awesome!!!
