Frozen Friday: Devour - Angus Beef with Cornbread

Devour's Angus Beef with Cornbread features Angus beef in a "sweet & smoky sauce" with a side of jalapeno cornbread.

I picked up a 10-oz box for $3.49.

The beef came in good-sized chunks that were flavorful, juicy, and tender. The sauce was sweet with a light smoky flavor and tomato base. I don't know why they don't just call it a barbecue sauce as it lent a barbecue feel to the braised beef and also went well with the cornbread.

The cornbread didn't look so great and was a little rubbery when I tried to tear it but the texture was mostly nice enough when I bite into it. It was a little dry in the middle, and chewy as a result, but was decently moist otherwise with the requisite crumbly quality.

There's just a bit of heat to it and a nice, nutty, savory corn flavor as its base. It's interspersed with bacon but I couldn't make out any smoky or meaty notes. Still, there's an interesting and enjoyable flavor throughout. Coupled with the convenience of microwave cooking and it's something they might want to sell in individual packs for a quick, warm snack.

Overall, Devour's Angus Beef was excellent as far as frozen food goes. The beef turned out remarkably well and the cornbread was especially tasty if a bit uneven in texture.
