Review: Burger King - Sausage, Egg, and Cheese French Toast Sandwich

Burger King's Sausage, Egg, and Cheese French Toast Sandwich features two slices of French Toast sandwiching the standard combo of a sausage patty, egg, and slice of American cheese.

I bought one for $4.39, which is the same price for their other breakfast sandwiches.

The French toast was eggy and lightly sweet with a soft texture. There was good coverage to the batter that went all the way to the edges. However, the crust was remarkably chewy and a little off-putting (and makes me fairly sure that these are microwaved on-site rather than griddled).

The sweet went well with the saltiness of the sausage and cheese without veering into syrupy territory (although you can request a cup of syrup if that's the way you want to go). The cheese was nicely melted and the sausage, while not offering much in the way of seasoning, was suitably salty, juicy, and meaty. The egg was soft and light.

Compared to their French Toast Sticks (which I also bought for comparison's sake), the French toast here wasn't crispy nor cinnamon-y but definitely felt more like French toast. There was more moisture content than in the sticks (as well as their biscuits and croissants).

When it comes down to it, I rather liked Burger King's Sausage, Egg, and Cheese French Toast Sandwich as the French toast actually felt and tasted like French toast (the kind you make really quick with Wonder Bread and not the Alton Brown version that you make with stale brioche or challah). It's a bit of a hard sell value-wise since they keep running the two for $4 Croissant'wich deal.
