Review: Saffron Road - Chicken Biryani

Saffron Road's Chicken Biryani features a "classic Hyderabad-inspired recipe with tender dark meat chicken and caramelized onions" served over Basmati rice.

A 10-oz box was $2.99 on sale.

There was a nice, spiced aroma to the biryani but that flavor of the spices and herbs did not come across. What was left then was a medium amount of heat and a fair amount of tanginess.

There was a fair amount of chicken but it was not particularly tender and still retained a good amount of chew.

The rice was longer and thicker than your typical Basmati. It appeared to be parboiled, which resulted in a firmer and less sticky grain that's fairly prevalent for frozen meals.

At the end of the day, Saffron Road's Chicken Biryani simply lacked in the seasoning department. The fact that I could smell the spices just made it weird that I wasn't tasting them.
