Review: Quaker - Chocolate Life Cereal

Quaker Chocolate Life cereal features the brand's signature multigrain square cereal with new chocolate flavoring. The cereal is made from a blend of whole oat, wheat, and rice flours in a flat lattice shape with sugar crystals inside.

A 13-oz box retails for $3.19 at my local Target, but I received this courtesy of Quaker.

The individual squares of Chocolate Life cereal are lightly crunchy and the texture is bran-like due to the use of whole grains. It's got a more satisfying chew to it as a result when eaten alone but gets soggy fairly quickly when eaten with milk.

Chocolate Life is only mildly sweet compared to most breakfast cereals, but I found it to be a perfect amount as to not be cloying (and I also didn't feel like I was eating a bowl of dessert). The sugar crystals inside the squares are just enough for a little burst of sweetness with each bite.

On the chocolate front, the cereal doesn't really deliver. The cocoa powder gives Chocolate Life a light touch of chocolate, but it's definitely trailing behind its other chocolate breakfast cereal competitors.

Chocolate Life cereal provides some welcome variety for the multigrain cereal line while staying true to its original flavor. Chocolate fans may be let down by the mild cocoa flavor, though.
