Chipotle Tests "Carside Pickup" at 29 Restaurants in California

Chipotle is testing curbside pickup at 29 locations in California as a convenient way for customers to get their order. The potential change comes as the chain's digital sales have increased during the pandemic.

Here's Chipotle's description of how the service works:

"When ordering from participating restaurants, guests can select "Carside Pickup" in the checkout section of the Chipotle app.

After the order is confirmed, the following instructions will be displayed:

1. Head to the restaurant

2. Park in a spot as close as possible to the restaurant

3. Open the Chipotle app and tap the "I'm Here" button

4. A Chipotle team member will bring your order to the car

Guests will also be able to select their vehicle type and color in the app, including typing in their car's make."

In short, Chipotle's Carside Pickup seems to work in much the same way as the curbside pickup service offered by competing chains such as McDonald's, Panera, and Shake Shack. Interestingly, it sounds like having designated curbside pickup parking spots might not be a given.
